In October and November 2017, news reports emerged about the plunging air quality in the Delhi-NCR region. This particular incidence of poor air quality was linked to the crop stubble burning season – the time of harvesting the Kharif crop. While crop stubble burning is common globally, it is a widespread practice in the northwest part of India, which includes the states of Punjab and Haryana.
